watch out for falling space debris.
who. Anyone and everyone on the station.
what. Two shuttles come through the relay. Only one makes it through intact - and it's the one bringing in the new recruits.
where. All around the station, but most of the action will probably take place on and around the landing pads.
when. Right now.
warnings. General, mass hysteria. Not much else.
It's that time again. Time for that shuttle to come through the relay and bring in a new batch of people that don't know where they are or why. This is something that everyone has gotten used to, and doesn't think much of.
This time, though, something is different. And because no one is expecting it, it catches the entire station by surprise. Two shuttles come through the relay, and while that's more than surprising enough, what happens next, no one is expecting.
One of the shuttles explodes. Out in the dead of space between the relay and the station, it bursts into a thousand smaller pieces. The debris left behind tells nothing of what had been on the shuttle, or who for that matter, but the fact remains that this wasn't supposed to happen.
Which means people are going to wonder why it happened in the first place.
With the newcomers arriving on the station, there's going to be enough confusion going on, but with the shuttle explosion tacked on to the end? It's going to raise some suspicion.
This log is not only for the newcomers to mingle about, but also to gauge reactions about the shuttle exploding. To speculate on why it happened, and generally allow for all kinds of reactions all throughout the station. You can assume that by the time the shuttle with our new characters has landed, news of the explosion has travelled through most of the station. Please see the OOC post for more information.
Have fun, and try not to freak out too much.

Elena was aware she was a little wild-eyed as she looked around and she realized she was sometimes gawking at the very-not-human aliens that were racing around. She tried hard not to be caught in her staring and tried even harder to stay out of the way. The second shuttle exploding seemed to have the unsurprising effect of mass confusion, curiosity, and panic. While Elena didn't know a whole lot just yet, she knew she didn't want to get mixed up in that mess. She had enough problems to manage right now than that.
Besides, as every kid is taught, if you get lost and separated from people you know, you should just stay in one place and remain calm. (Or ask for help, but Elena doesn't even know who's in charge if anybody is in the first place.) Someone will find you eventually. Hopefully that still applied to space stations. Elena refocused her attention from staring at aliens to looking through the crowd for someone she might recognize. Maybe she could have a little luck for half a second, but she wasn't holding her breath.

Her hand flips her hair back off her shoulder as she moves to the one shuttle that didn't suffer any damage at all. Lucky them. She's looking for the dazed looks, the ones that might have suffered from PTSD and not even know it.
She's trying to do her job, get information, ask questions, but then she swears that she spots Urban Outfitters and brown hair and she almost wonders if it's Allison. Then the girl turns around and she sighs. Definitely not Allison. Either way, she's going to stride on over to her.
"I like your jacket." It's the opener she uses for all of her potential best friends.

shuttle bay | scott 'n' stiles
The light here's not much like day, but it's bright enough to see that most of the crowd that's been gathering isn't human. More of the lizard dudes with their weird chest handles, to start, plus a whole bunch of unfamiliar ones. But there are humans, though none of them dress anything like the humans Scott knows. He scans the crowd anyway, just in case by some coincidence there's someone here he recognises.
He's confused, and probably going to start being upset at some point, but it's not real. Not yet.
presses hands to face.
He goes to the landing pad because he knows Lydia will probably end up over there, working at the clinic - even if he's cheesed she just went back to work like she didn't spend nearly a week in some stranger's apartment unconscious.
And also, he holds out a vague hope that sometimes he might run into someone he knows. He's not naming names, but he can hope, right?
Except this time, shoving through the aliens and giving the even-more-cranky-than-usual Batarians a wide berth, he spots a familiar head of hair. And shirt, because he remembers that shirt.
"Scott?" He says, partly to himself, and then, heart beating in his chest faster, getting a little excited and pushing towards the figure, "Scott!"
That has to be his best friend - he'd recognize him anywhere.

HI IM SORRY THIS IS LATE have a rachel 8)
Except there isn't anything at the docks but a lot of scared and confused people. And...okay, so this isn't Rachel's department, not even close. But she remembers what it was like, winding up here all of a sudden. She can only imagine how much scarier it's got to be with the explosion going on.
"Hey -- " She doesn't mean to scare the guy, coming up almost behind him, but she can tell he's bewildered, at least. Okay, confused Rachel can handle. "Let me guess, new arrival?"
Shuttle Bay | Open to Anyone
Upon landing he tried to identify some of the species there to figure out what sector he was in. There was such a variety though he had as little clue as before. The sight of the occasional human was reassuring, if only because he was more familiar with the citizens of his neighboring sector then any of the others there.
Standing in the middle of the crowd, Tomar-Re was attracting quite a bit of attention, between his uniform and glowing lantern battery. Many people were muttering about the insignia on his chest, but from what Tomar-Re overheard it didn't sound like people were familiar with the meaning behind the lantern symbol.
Despite expecting his suspicions to only be confirmed, Tomar-Re drew in a breath and addressed the crowd.
"I am Tomar-Re, of the Green Lantern Corps. Would anyone be able to inform me what sector this is, and who the resident Green Lantern is?"

She had heard about the explosion and was curious to see through all of the newcomers if any of her friends had been aboard, no such luck. But seeing so many confused and very strange people, she didn't mind telling yet another soul where they were and how much it sucked to be there.

That would be the only remark Karkat would ever make in regards to that shuttle. Poor idiots on board likely didn't even know it was coming. Karkat was sort of grateful that the universe decided to turn its eye from him for a change. Blowing up in some vacuum would have really been anticlimactic after sitting around for three years, twiddling his thumbs to the beat of his good friends turning into self absorbed dunderfucks.
Getting off of the intact shuttle was an experience that he thought he'd never actually have. Karkat always sort of pictured this event, when he was just a grub naturally, would be as a Threshecutioner. More trolls in military garb, fighting for the continued glory of the Empire. Instead what he got was a hodgepodge of races he was sure he had never seen before. What Karkat could recognize were humans and that pretty much summed it all up right there. Now he certainly didn't know what the merry fuck was going on. Last he checked, the group was supposed to be entering in another Sburb session. This, as far as he could tell anyway, was not some random ass player planet.
It was another rock drifting in the middle of space.
Groaning, his hands slapped against his face. Karkat was frustrated and doing his best to adequately squish down the building panic wanting to rear its ugly head. This wasn't a game session. How he got here, he didn't exactly know. Or remember. Dave, Rose, Kanaya, Terezi... The Mayor... None of them appeared to be with him. Was he dead? Experiencing a dreambubble from some unknown loser who happened to lose the game?
"Fuck. My. Life."

Unsurprisingly (but disappointingly), he didn't spot any one of them. He would have preferred to see them to know beyond a shadow of a doubt that they were safe, but... well, they weren't around. There were no traces of Jane or Roxy. There weren't any of Aranea either, not that he was looking for her as much as the others. If UU was around, he didn't recognize her (actually, now that he thought about it he didn't know anything about her appearance. All he knew was that she was a Troll) either. Jake sighed to himself, trying not to worry but finding it difficult to shrug off his concerns.
Finding himself standing around with very little else to do, Jake decides to take another scan of the crowd and that's when he spots what looks like a troll. He can't see the telltale horns from his current spot but he THINKS the gray skinned alien looks similar enough. With a vague hope that it might be UU, he inches forward and taps the unfamiliar person on the shoulder.
"Excuse me there, I don't mean to be a bother but... Are you a troll?"

He's head to toe in Eclipse armor, a combination of paranoia from people recognizing him as one of the mercs and being opposed to walking around in the open without some layer of protection. Of course, that doesn't actually make him any more of an imposing figure than usual, since the armor doesn't make him any taller. So, call it a pleasure at seeing someone who also wasn't contributing to the population of big scary dudes on the station, as well as a fascination about aliens that still somehow hasn't faded after being on a space station for months; he laughs when the grey lump of grump rolls off the shuttle.
"Hey, complaining is my job! The party's only just starting!"
FINALLY
sorry for slowtag!
shuttle bay | open
He's standing off to the side as everyone else sifts out of the remaining shuttle, hands shoved into the pockets of his jeans, hazel eyes scanning everything his gaze can reach. He doesn't recognize this place - doesn't like any of it just for the simple fact that nothing smells as it should and it makes him want to wrinkle his nose in disgust.
There are also .. things giving him strange looks, and he has to resist the urge to bare his teeth at them.
Something seems very wrong about this, and if anyone asked him, he would growl out something about not having the time for this, but .. it isn't as though he can do anything about it, is it?

She recalls him killing Jackson, but Jackson ... he had accepted that. She knew that. It doesn't make it easier, but at least it removes some of the venom from her approach.
Which is why she's just standing off to the side and staring at him. If anyone is going to show up from the Hale family, she's just glad that it's not Peter that's arrived.

He knew the universe had something up its sleeve to fuck with him. And seeing one very unwelcome familiar face in the crowd, attempting to look nondescript, is just.
Stiles hates his life.
"Oh no," He says out loud, mostly to himself, and then, "No, no, no," growing progressively more irritated as he stalks over to Derek. With the balls of a 16 year old male, he points a finger at Derek.
"You! What the hell are you doing here?"

Elena stumbles back, but manages to maintain her balance - and not collide with anyone else in the crowd. So, there are apparently some small miracles available for her still. It seems like every time the shock of all this starts to fade, she starts thinking about all of it again and she's right back to square one.
"Whoa, sorry," she apologizes with a small shake of her head. "I was completely spacing out."

But the Rachel that's here now, the Rachel that's already been fighting in this war for a year, she might notice the chiseled jaw and the piercing eyes, but what she really pays attention to is the fact that he's standing off to the side, surveying everything a little too coolly. It rubs her the wrong way. Almost everyone around here is panicking, and this guy? Way too collected for what's going on.
So of course she strides right up to him, looking up at him right in the eye. She's tall for her age, sure, but not quite as tall as him. "Did you just come off that shuttle?"

Shuttle Bay | Open
So very curious.
It didn't take long for him to hear chatter about the other shuttle that had apparently exploded and he activated his omni-tool to run a few scans of the surrounding area. There was nothing outright suspicious, though he made a point to save all the information just in case something came up later, and his attention was quickly grabbed by the odd assortment of individuals that had come off the shuttle with him. A few more scans were taken, the professor humming thoughtfully as he slowly started to move away from the shuttle, sorting the data that he's gotten so far.
"Interesting. Most interesting," he mused to himself, taking a moment to send out a test signal to try and contact the Normandy.
Not that he was expecting much, all things considered. It..was just a shot in the dark really. An attempt to figure out what was going on and why he was here.
Re: Shuttle Bay | Open
So he's on his way when he gets the ping on the Normandy's usual frequency. That piques his interest even more. He's bumping through the crowd of people rushing away from the site of the explosion and the shuttle bay while checking his omni-tool for that singular signal from before when he catches sight of a familiar salarian.
He pushes through a few people and makes his way over.
"Mordin? Where the hell have you been? We thought you'd gone AWOL."

The last people he'd had contact with before arriving here himself was his team on Virmire. According to Shepard and his crew that had been a number of years ago, but it never hurt to check. Hell, maybe Commander Rentola or someone would pop up one of these days. What Kirrahe hadn't been expecting was to see Mordin fucking Solus hopping off that shuttle.
"Professor!" Kirrahe ungracefully shoved his way through a small crowd of aliens and made his way over. He couldn't decide if he was annoyed or relieved, but he'd figure that out after he was sure Mordin was in one piece. "Where have you been, we've been looking all over for you!"

She had her own reasons for documenting who was coming onto the station and who was randomly disappearing, it was all a large headache the more she thought about it. Seeing a familiar face was reassuring, even if she wasn't sure what was going on with the station anymore.

Shuttle Bay | OTA
The explosion, instead of panicking her, only served to clear her mind. Space stations, shuttles, and aliens were strange, explosions and near death experiences were just part of the job. She focused on those around her, watching as the majority of them scrambled about in panic.
A part of her wondered if she should start moving, pretend to be panicked, allow herself to be swallowed in the crowd. She couldn't let herself stand out too soon, not until she figured out where she was, how it was that she got there, and what powers were in charge or had some sort of claim.

She didn't see any kids, but it was hard not to notice the one woman not looking all that concerned. It was hard not to have her curiosity piqued, especially when she could hear the frantic calls of krogan and batarians alike. She tried to catch the woman's gaze, approaching her with a mixture of curiosity and skepticism on her face.
"So, what, is this just an average day for you, or are you just hard to impress?"

She stalks out of the shuttle like a newly-urban fox, ears pricked; aware this is unfamiliar territory, and duly wary but sure she can make it her own.
She is not prepared for being proven wrong.

While she's used to seeing aliens by now, the one she spies nearby looks like a new species—or maybe some kind of branch of a species she already knows. Either way, she probably shouldn't immediately assume hostility. She'll just be keeping a hand close to her hip as she calls out from maybe ten yards away.
"Nice horns!"
Nobody promised enlightening first contact.
