watch out for falling space debris.
who. Anyone and everyone on the station.
what. Two shuttles come through the relay. Only one makes it through intact - and it's the one bringing in the new recruits.
where. All around the station, but most of the action will probably take place on and around the landing pads.
when. Right now.
warnings. General, mass hysteria. Not much else.
It's that time again. Time for that shuttle to come through the relay and bring in a new batch of people that don't know where they are or why. This is something that everyone has gotten used to, and doesn't think much of.
This time, though, something is different. And because no one is expecting it, it catches the entire station by surprise. Two shuttles come through the relay, and while that's more than surprising enough, what happens next, no one is expecting.
One of the shuttles explodes. Out in the dead of space between the relay and the station, it bursts into a thousand smaller pieces. The debris left behind tells nothing of what had been on the shuttle, or who for that matter, but the fact remains that this wasn't supposed to happen.
Which means people are going to wonder why it happened in the first place.
With the newcomers arriving on the station, there's going to be enough confusion going on, but with the shuttle explosion tacked on to the end? It's going to raise some suspicion.
This log is not only for the newcomers to mingle about, but also to gauge reactions about the shuttle exploding. To speculate on why it happened, and generally allow for all kinds of reactions all throughout the station. You can assume that by the time the shuttle with our new characters has landed, news of the explosion has travelled through most of the station. Please see the OOC post for more information.
Have fun, and try not to freak out too much.

Derek loses himself in his own thoughts for a moment, but then she's introducing herself, and he snaps out of it long enough to be formal. Names are good to know when you're surrounded by everything unfamiliar, even if you've already run into two people you are familiar with.
It's nice to not immediately be blamed for things, though. And if he can only get that from a stranger, then so be it. "Derek," he replies, one side of his mouth curving upwards in the semblance of a smile.

"I'd say it's nice to meet you, but that'd be a pretty bad lie," she says with a slightly wider smile. Elena doesn't blame him for the situation, but the situation does notably suck so it tends to put a sour note on any meeting.

What Elena says next does make him laugh, though, and he nods in agreement. "Wouldn't want you to lie to someone you just met," he replies with a slightly more honest attempt at a smile, a flash of white before his mouth is set back into a rather firm line. "Do you know anyone here?"
He wants to know if there is anyone she's seen that is also from wherever she'd come from, because the fact that Lydia and Stiles are both here seems a little strange, and he wants to find out the reasoning behind it.

Poetic justice, or something like that.
But he nods, waving a hand dismissively. "I've seen two I know. But they weren't exactly thrilled to see me."

They aren't exactly friends, anyway. He likes to think that he isn't missing anything vital. He's used to being on his own - the cliched lone wolf - and given that there's no one else here that he can possibly relate to, find some sort of solace in, it doesn't really matter.
