This is the start of something bigger.

who. Everyone on Omega.

what. The station finds out about the state of Thessia - in that it is now being taken over by the Reapers.

where. Various places all over the station.

when. Immediately. Right now.

warnings. None as of yet, other than general panic and chaos.

It begins like any other day on the station. The sun isn't shining, the grass isn't green - there are vorcha sleeping in back alleys and krogans still drunk on ryncol trying to start fights with anyone passing by, but that's just another day in the life of a patron of Omega.

Except today, there is something different. It's not in the air, at least not yet.

During Cerberus' occupation of the station, handy little devices known as quantum entanglement communicators were installed to allow communication with The Illusive Man, and though Cerberus is no longer on Omega, their devices remain. It was likely that this was the only way Aria could maintain contact during her exile, and thus the only reason they remain now that she's back - but that's neither here nor there.

Today, there's something different coming through. Not the usual galactic noise, the static that bleeds into everything else where the station is concerned. Today, it's something completely different.

The Reapers have invaded Thessia. Asari commandos have held them off for as long as they possibly can, but there is only so much they can do with limited resources. And as the news makes its way around the station, everyone seems to react differently, but the song remains the same: ultimately, chaos will ensue. It's only a matter of time.

Why all the worry? The asari are the most advanced race in the galaxy. If they don't have the means to hold the Reapers off, no one does. It's hopeless.

We encourage you, as players, to plot and thread as you see fit - how your characters will react to the news, how they will be affected, etc. There will be some starter threads below, but you are more than welcome to start your own.

[It was times like this when Kirrahe was especially thankful for his STG training. Avoiding panicked asari on his way out of the market district hadn't been too difficult. Not that he was too concerned that they would have made him a target to vent their frustrations on or something, but one could never play it too safe on Omega. Especially considering current events. It was very likely that some pissed off asari merc would probably be out for blood, and there was a good chance that they wouldn't care whose it was. Once he was mostly clear of the crazed mobs and panicked aliens, he uncloaked. The random street corner he'd stopped on probably wasn't the most secure place on Omega, but secure places were pretty hard to come by.

Thanks to what Kirrahe had heard from Shepard's crew when he'd first arrived, he had a decent idea of what was going on. However, hearing about it and experiencing it like this were two completely different things. He hadn't been in denial or anything before, but this whole situation sure as hell made the Reapers more real to him. They were a big fucking deal, and frankly the fact that there was absolutely nothing Kirrahe could do about anything was really goddamn frustrating.

For the time being, he was going to search his omni-tool for information or extranet reports, just hanging out on this street corner like every other salarian NPC hanging out on street corners with their omni-tools.]

[--Plus one blonde ninja, who was also getting shoved around more than she'd like and was really close to shouting at the next person that barely brushed her arm. What the heck was even going on? There was always something on this station it seemed like and she's getting to the point where she's really sick and tired of all the issues.

Except this time? It's much more serious. Ino had been in the middle of buying lunch when the chaos started, a break from the clinic as it were. One thing in particular stood out among the shouting and general clusterfuck of bodies and feeling of fear.

Reapers. It's said over and over and the name is familiar. Liara had told her about them once, didn't she? It was during the time the adjutants had tried to gain control. But they could be stopped! Why was everyone running around for? And it was on the different planet altogether? They were fine...

Right?

She looks around once she finds the street corner away from rushing bodies and spots someone familiar who's on his omni-tool.]

Kirrahe! [She walks over quickly. He could answer her questions.]

What's going on? Why is everyone going berserk?

[His hand instinctively went for his pistol, but he stopped himself once he'd recognized the human. Not a threat, that was always nice. Normally he didn't like to talk about sensitive matters like this in public, but it wasn't likely to be an issue with everyone panicking and focusing on their own shit.]

The asari homeworld has fallen to the Reapers.

[He hadn't intended to be so short about it, but hey, that's what had happened. The more he thought about it, the more it troubled him. Not much that could be done about it though, was there?]

[EXCUSE U

There's a frustrated sound in the back of her throat.]

I know that!

[Hell, the whole station knew that. It's been on repeat on every part of the station for a while now. But asari? Liara? Her home? She would have to check on her later...

Liara had been the one other person that tried to comfort her with the loss of her father. But she better not think of that.]

I can understand why the asari would be agitated like this but they aren't the only ones. Everyone I've run into is freaking out.

Just who are these Reapers?
motivationalspeaker: (shepard in pink)

[personal profile] motivationalspeaker 2013-05-11 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
Given the circumstances, your question was pretty vague.

[Again, not intending to be short with her, but the situation was a little stressful. Still, the least he could do was explain things to her the best he could.]

I'm surprised you haven't heard of them. The Reapers are a race of sentient machines. To my knowledge, their only goal is the complete annihilation of every sapient species in the galaxy. If they've taken Thessia, they can take any of our planets.

[NOT THE POINT and she wants to tell him so because she's irritated at all the chaos but not really KNOWING why. She knows the Reapers were bad, she knew they were the cause of the war, she knew they controlled people by the power of suggestion...

But how strong? No. Strong enough to take a world, though.]

I've heard about them. [Has she. She had been in the mind of one for a short amount of time. Something she didn't plan on doing again, anytime soon. And okay, crazy machines that want to destroy all life of the galaxy definitely sounded like trouble. With creature like the adjutants in their arsenal, they were formidable not unstoppable, right?]

They were the adjutants that had overrun the district before.

But ... Thessia is just one planet! [Liara's planet but the fact remains.] Why are you all giving up hope so easily?

The adjutants were just tools of the Reapers. If my information is correct, the machines themselves have yet to be spotted in this system.

[He shakes his head a bit and turns back to his omni-tool, pausing before he continues.]

Thessia isn't just one planet. Thessia is the homeworld of what is often considered the most powerful race in the galaxy. If even the asari can't hold the Reapers back, why wouldn't people lose hope? For all I know, Sur'Kesh could be next. To many people, this situation does seem hopeless, but don't assume that we've all lost hope.

[whether or not he found anything of use on his omni-tool, he he shuts it down and gives Ino his full attention.]
cosmosic: (serious→ pokerface)

[personal profile] cosmosic 2013-05-11 04:08 am (UTC)(link)
[She didn't know they were the most powerful. Did that power stem from their incredibly long life spans? They probably had a lot of time to develop their strengths and gain wisdom. She can see how it would be a crushing blow to the entirety of all life forms but that's still no reason to react this way. They should bolster their own defenses to make sure they didn't lose their worlds too.

Work together. SHOUNEN POWER.]

I hope you haven't lost hope. [She looks annoyed at the idea but the expression smooths because he's stopped fiddling with his omni-tool and she realizes this was probably more troubling than she could understand.

And that's annoying too.]

[Anywhere else in the galaxy, the general population is probably handling it better. But this is Omega, kiddo. It's a wonder the market district isn't completely on fire]

I'm trained not to. I won't deny that I'm concerned, but we still have options.

[Unfortunately, he had no idea what those options were at the time being.]

It is. I was actually on my way back there before I ended up on Omega.

[don't jynx it......

At least someone saw hope. Everyone else? She's not sure. If the Reapers (whatever they were) came here wouldn't they need all these fleeing people here to fight back? It seems stupid to leave or whatever they were doing. Not that Ino had a choice, or anyone else that was brought here by force. Kirrahe, included.

She wants to ask the options but hopefully they won't have to resort to such a thing.]

And still nobody knows how we're brought here yet, do they? Geez.

[SIGHS. If Sur'Kesh was next instead of Omega then--]

I hope you'll be able to go back to your home soon, like you were aiming to. [So he can defend it.]

Not to my knowledge, and I've been looking into it since my arrival. If there is any information, it's well hidden.

[And that shit was frustrating.]

Assuming I can get back at all, I hope it's soon enough to make a difference. In the meantime, there are people here that need help.

This whole place needs help.

[With adjutants running amok. And then pyjaks, and then varren, and the those dumbass vorcha setting fire TO THE RAIN to get rid of them. Not to mention whatever went wrong with the water system. It was just a lot of NOPE when you asked Ino. She wants off this station to protect her home, but she also wants off because she's sick and tired of everything that's happened. Nothing good ever happened. At least on Thor, sometimes there were good things.]

What about that Aria? She's not leaving, is she?

[She's in charge of this shindig. Maybe there was a way to talk to her about it. With the fall of Thessia, maybe she would be a bit more understanding. lol not]

I doubt she'll leave Omega. She just got this station back under her control, I fully expect her to fight tooth and nail to keep it that way. Whether or not she actually has a plan to defend this place from a Reaper invasion, I have no idea. The merc bands can only do so much.

[I mean let's be honest they couldn't even take out one turian vigilante after teaming up]

[Liara knew the news, as bleak as it was, she also knew the outcome that would fall Thessia. Her home had been claimed by the reapers, again, it was like watching a horror movie and already knowing the ending, anticipating the very worst.

Even then, watching asari stores, like the asari grocery she shopped at close was starting to make Liara feel panicked. She needed to be on Thessia, but she couldn't, no one here could, even if they wanted to be. She was on the other side of the galaxy from her home and it was in flames. But there wasn't much Liara could do, she knew there wasn't, so she just continued her grocery shopping.]

[leave it to Severa to choose to go shopping at what seemed to be the least appropriate time. so many of these blue-skinned aliens—Asari, she'd learned—were freaking out for what didn't seem to be any good reason. something about Reapers and some... planet, she supposed. sure, Severa had heard some of these words before, but none of them had ever really held any weight.]

[so she was thrilled to be coming up behind an Asari who didn't seem to be taking this whole thing quite so seriously. without introducing herself or even really indicating she was there, she started talking in an attempt to get the alien's attention. just in case she did turn around, though, Severa affected the least threatening expression and tone she could muster.]

Excuse me. You're being awfully calm about whatever's going on. Would you mind explaining what everyone's freaking out about?
dowhatittakes: (just give me a moment to think here)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
Calm, Liara was anything but calm about this but wasn't about to outwardly show it to a stranger. Turning around she gave a small if fleeting smile.]

The asari are panicked because our homeworld, Thessia, has fallen under attack to the Reapers. We're seen as the most advanced race in the galaxy, so if the reapers can take our homeworld then what hope to the other races have of defending themselves against such a force? It's why everyone is so panicked and sadly there is nothing that can be done while the Mass Relay is broken.

It's not a very comforting situation for most right now.

Re: Market District

[personal profile] squanderlust 2013-05-12 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
[well, that sounds a little more serious, even to someone who's taken down a god before. Severa's false front shakes for a second, but only a little.]

But aren't there people from other galaxies here? [she's reluctant to out herself as one, but her massively antiquated clothing might give that one away.] Wouldn't there be someone more advanced? It's some kind of... law of averages, or whatever.
dowhatittakes: (hand to neck)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Perhaps here on Omega due to the strange events that have been happening with the relay. But there isn't a race more advanced here than the asari in the galaxy.

[Liara's trying to explain, mostly she's still upset that she has to live through this again without any way of getting to or contacting anyone on Thessia.]

Re: Market District

[personal profile] squanderlust 2013-05-12 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, but what's stopping all of the ones in Omega from getting together to fight the Reapers? [aside from what a complete suicide mission it would be. she puts a hand on her hip; she hasn't quite done any shopping yet, so they're both free for now.] Once the relay gets fixed, I mean. How hard could that be, anyway? It wouldn't surprise me if you had some kind of... one-size-fits-all technology repair thing.
dowhatittakes: (it's not that simple Shepard)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
It's not that simple, the reapers are a group of sentient space ships. Most of which are two kilometers in length and have technology capable of turning people into their mindless slaves. They're intent on destroying all advanced organic life in the galaxy, this is bigger than just Omega.

[She's explaining the best she can to her without getting overly complicated. It's a big issue, bigger than Liara feels she can explain.]

The relays are Reaper technology, if it's broken then it's a very difficult and complicated task to even find what has gone wrong, then to fix it would be a larger task again.

Re: Market District

[personal profile] squanderlust 2013-05-12 04:14 am (UTC)(link)
[at this point, Severa can't hold back a sigh any longer. nothing is easy. though from what the Reapers sound like (and now she already thinks she's given away her newbie status to this Asari), it's never been easy.]

Of course. Then what can we do from here? Just because nobody thinks they stand a chance doesn't mean we can sit around and take it!

[Of all days for Kirrahe to decide to go out and try to find a house plant, it had to be this one (what, don't make fun). Well, the good news was that he managed to find a shop that sold plants. Expensive as hell, but whatever. The bad news was everything else. The news about Thessia had hit while he was out, and he'd found himself dodging panicked asari shortly after. It was almost a relief when he stumbled across one he was at least somewhat familiar with. Not that he was particularly close to Shepard's crew, but at least Liara wasn't running around in a panic like most everyone else.

With his tiny potted fern tucked securely under one arm, he approached Liara. Almost cautiously, it didn't hurt to be careful.]
