This is the start of something bigger.
who. Everyone on Omega.
what. The station finds out about the state of Thessia - in that it is now being taken over by the Reapers.
where. Various places all over the station.
when. Immediately. Right now.
warnings. None as of yet, other than general panic and chaos.
It begins like any other day on the station. The sun isn't shining, the grass isn't green - there are vorcha sleeping in back alleys and krogans still drunk on ryncol trying to start fights with anyone passing by, but that's just another day in the life of a patron of Omega.
Except today, there is something different. It's not in the air, at least not yet.
During Cerberus' occupation of the station, handy little devices known as quantum entanglement communicators were installed to allow communication with The Illusive Man, and though Cerberus is no longer on Omega, their devices remain. It was likely that this was the only way Aria could maintain contact during her exile, and thus the only reason they remain now that she's back - but that's neither here nor there.
Today, there's something different coming through. Not the usual galactic noise, the static that bleeds into everything else where the station is concerned. Today, it's something completely different.
The Reapers have invaded Thessia. Asari commandos have held them off for as long as they possibly can, but there is only so much they can do with limited resources. And as the news makes its way around the station, everyone seems to react differently, but the song remains the same: ultimately, chaos will ensue. It's only a matter of time.
Why all the worry? The asari are the most advanced race in the galaxy. If they don't have the means to hold the Reapers off, no one does. It's hopeless.
We encourage you, as players, to plot and thread as you see fit - how your characters will react to the news, how they will be affected, etc. There will be some starter threads below, but you are more than welcome to start your own.

Except this time? It's much more serious. Ino had been in the middle of buying lunch when the chaos started, a break from the clinic as it were. One thing in particular stood out among the shouting and general clusterfuck of bodies and feeling of fear.
Reapers. It's said over and over and the name is familiar. Liara had told her about them once, didn't she? It was during the time the adjutants had tried to gain control. But they could be stopped! Why was everyone running around for? And it was on the different planet altogether? They were fine...
Right?
She looks around once she finds the street corner away from rushing bodies and spots someone familiar who's on his omni-tool.]
Kirrahe! [She walks over quickly. He could answer her questions.]
What's going on? Why is everyone going berserk?
no subject
The asari homeworld has fallen to the Reapers.
[He hadn't intended to be so short about it, but hey, that's what had happened. The more he thought about it, the more it troubled him. Not much that could be done about it though, was there?]
no subject
There's a frustrated sound in the back of her throat.]
I know that!
[Hell, the whole station knew that. It's been on repeat on every part of the station for a while now. But asari? Liara? Her home? She would have to check on her later...
Liara had been the one other person that tried to comfort her with the loss of her father. But she better not think of that.]
I can understand why the asari would be agitated like this but they aren't the only ones. Everyone I've run into is freaking out.
Just who are these Reapers?
no subject
[Again, not intending to be short with her, but the situation was a little stressful. Still, the least he could do was explain things to her the best he could.]
I'm surprised you haven't heard of them. The Reapers are a race of sentient machines. To my knowledge, their only goal is the complete annihilation of every sapient species in the galaxy. If they've taken Thessia, they can take any of our planets.
no subject
But how strong? No. Strong enough to take a world, though.]
I've heard about them. [Has she. She had been in the mind of one for a short amount of time. Something she didn't plan on doing again, anytime soon. And okay, crazy machines that want to destroy all life of the galaxy definitely sounded like trouble. With creature like the adjutants in their arsenal, they were formidable not unstoppable, right?]
They were the adjutants that had overrun the district before.
But ... Thessia is just one planet! [Liara's planet but the fact remains.] Why are you all giving up hope so easily?
[~*SHOUNEN*~]

[He shakes his head a bit and turns back to his omni-tool, pausing before he continues.]
Thessia isn't just one planet. Thessia is the homeworld of what is often considered the most powerful race in the galaxy. If even the asari can't hold the Reapers back, why wouldn't people lose hope? For all I know, Sur'Kesh could be next. To many people, this situation does seem hopeless, but don't assume that we've all lost hope.
[whether or not he found anything of use on his omni-tool, he he shuts it down and gives Ino his full attention.]
no subject
Work together. SHOUNEN POWER.]
I hope you haven't lost hope. [She looks annoyed at the idea but the expression smooths because he's stopped fiddling with his omni-tool and she realizes this was probably more troubling than she could understand.
And that's annoying too.]
Is Sur'Kesh your homeworld?
no subject
I'm trained not to. I won't deny that I'm concerned, but we still have options.
[Unfortunately, he had no idea what those options were at the time being.]
It is. I was actually on my way back there before I ended up on Omega.
no subject
At least someone saw hope. Everyone else? She's not sure. If the Reapers (whatever they were) came here wouldn't they need all these fleeing people here to fight back? It seems stupid to leave or whatever they were doing. Not that Ino had a choice, or anyone else that was brought here by force. Kirrahe, included.
She wants to ask the options but hopefully they won't have to resort to such a thing.]
And still nobody knows how we're brought here yet, do they? Geez.
[SIGHS. If Sur'Kesh was next instead of Omega then--]
I hope you'll be able to go back to your home soon, like you were aiming to. [So he can defend it.]
Actually, I hope everyone can go back home soon.
no subject
[And that shit was frustrating.]
Assuming I can get back at all, I hope it's soon enough to make a difference. In the meantime, there are people here that need help.
no subject
[With adjutants running amok. And then pyjaks, and then varren, and the those dumbass vorcha setting fire
TO THE RAINto get rid of them. Not to mention whatever went wrong with the water system. It was just a lot of NOPE when you asked Ino. She wants off this station to protect her home, but she also wants off because she's sick and tired of everything that's happened. Nothing good ever happened. At least on Thor, sometimes there were good things.]What about that Aria? She's not leaving, is she?
[She's in charge of this shindig. Maybe there was a way to talk to her about it. With the fall of Thessia, maybe she would be a bit more understanding.
lol not]no subject
[I mean let's be honest they couldn't even take out one turian vigilante after teaming up]
no subject
She doesn't know much about Aria so this is news to her! So the next comment she's curious and sarcastic about at once.]
Why someone want to control this dump is what I want to know.
[A pause while her thoughts get away from her a bit. What was so great about this place that would make anyone want to come back, either. There were just problems left and right and she didn't even DEAL with them, did she?]
She lost it?
no subject
Apparently that was recently the case. A group known as Cerberus recently occupied the station. Aria took it back. I don't know specific details about the situation yet, but I've been looking in to it.
[Okay that was a bit long winded. That's what you get when you talk to a salarian.]
no subject
Her brow furrows. Bodies, weapons, and money. He's right. With the right resources (which Aria clearly had) she was formidable. And what she knows of Aria, utterly ruthless.]
If Cerberus occupied the station, they're probably pretty formidable themselves. [And now the Reapers took Thessia.
This...world, or whatever it is. Whatever these places are she's randomly turned up on, are never good. Omega, especially.]
Could her army take on the Reapers?
no subject
[Encouraging, right? All things considered, Kirrahe doesn't look too beat up over it.] This war is bigger than any one species, any single planet. Any space station full of mercenaries. If we're going to have a chance against the Reapers, the entire galaxy needs to stand united.
no subject
Ino is a little stricken, however. He had just said her army would be formidable. But this puts things into perspective. She needed a force stronger than the one she had here to beat the Reapers.
And that's shounen if she's ever heard it. NICE MINI SPEECH. It's like Kirrahee is Shepard's Gaara HA
There's a determined nod.]
Right. And for as long as I'm here, I'll do what I can to help this station too. I've made friends here I want to protect and I won't let these Reaper-bastards get near them if I have anything to say about it.
no subject
Kirrahe had never been the sort of person that liked to sugar coat things. He was concerned that he'd been a little too grim explaining the situation, especially considering this human didn't appear to be much more than a child, but she was taking the information pretty well. Great, even.]
Good to hear. We're going to need that determination in the months to come. Whatever happens won't be easy for anyone, but if we can build that sort of mentality all over the station, we'll all stand a better chance.
no subject
When you've been fighting at a young age, controlling minds of many, losing fathers and father-figures, watching the darkness of war blot out any light of hope that might exist but still retaining that hope through sheer stubbornness -- it's almost damn near impossible to ruin her bravery.]
I'll spread the word so make sure you do the same, okay? Especially when it comes to standing together.
