intro log

who. everyone!
what. entering omega.
where. landing pads
when. today
warnings. none for now

You’re not sure how it happened.

A minute ago, you had somewhere to go, someplace to be. Maybe something important to do, or maybe you were just going out to buy groceries. Whatever it was, it doesn’t matter anymore.

You’re in some kind of transport -- a shuttle, given the turbulence and the sounds outside. You’re surrounded by strangers, some of whom might not even be the same species you are. There’s no point in asking. They don’t know how they got here either. The cockpit’s blocked off, like someone forgot to put in a door, and not even a glance at your omni-tool -- a holographic interface accessible by merely tapping the sensor on your left arm -- is any help.

You’ve only got a minute or so before the shuttle starts descending. There aren’t any windows -- this doesn’t look like a shuttle meant for long trips. When it finally touches down, the doors open automatically.

Before you are landing pads, abandoned equipment scattered about. There are other shuttles landing, and whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to get off before yours dumps you out the door. Turn around, and you’re met with a hazy skyline, only half the buildings seem to be coming from above.

Welcome to Omega.

ooc notes
You’re free to expand past the landing area, but please start all threads here. Please remember that your character will not have housing until Aria makes a post granting it; it’ll be on [community profile] outsiders and linked here when it goes up.

There's always a small amount of hope when it comes to technology.

[Liara will sigh at how easily Hawke picks up on the grim fact that this is Omega.]

Both literally and figuratively. Omega is a station that's notorious for housing outlaws. Gangs, mercenaries, assassins, drug dealers, slavery, prostitution, if it's illegal you'll find it here. Too bad there's nothing to really be done about the pollution or how run down the station is getting.

Lovely. Just what I wanted to hear.

[Well, at least it can't be any worse than Kirkwall, right? ...Right? It's a small comfort that Hawke's wandering into a nest that seems familiar. But with her surroundings not only foreign but out of her capabilities, she's wondering how well she's going to manage.]

I'm fairly surprised at how it smells. I thought it might have just been the rubble but there's...something else.

[Ash, maybe. Ash and an acrid taste on the air.]

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
That's the pollution, likely some residue from the element zero mines in the asteroid. The rest is just the smell of too many people in one place and not enough cleaning services.

[She really doesn't want to go into how bad some of the mercenaries smell, but as for the rest of Omega it just reminds her of how badly her lungs are likely fairing.]

Mines? Asteroid?

[Congratulations, Liara, you have successfully managed to kick Hawke's coherence off into space.]

Is the economy that poor here that people aren't better off?
dowhatittakes: (hand to neck)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you're dealing with a station full of outlaws. Mostly what makes money around here are the gangs and whomever can keep basic shops open. There are some good business deals that come through in various locations but for the most part the economy isn't great.

[But she'll pause and try to ask Hawke how she doesn't know what an asteroid is without seeming terribly rude.]

Do you not know what an asteroid is?

[Well she tried.]
unyieldingly: <lj user=chiquita> (between two lungs it was released)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-05 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
[Yes, this is sounding more and more like Kirkwall by the minute. Maker's breath, what have I stumbled into this time?

To her question, Hawke has the decency to look sheepish.]

I...don't. Let's just say I'm fairly certain I'm from somewhere very, very unknown to this place.
dowhatittakes: (secret smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-05 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay, well ah. You know about space right? If you look up a night it's the blackness that holds all of the stars. Essentially an asteroid is a giant rock that floats in space, debris really, but often they hold precious metals and such that can be mined and used to create things.

I think you're going to need a lot of questions answered.

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-05 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[But the explanation is simple and in terms Hawke can parse without needing to fall all over herself in an attempt to figure out their meaning. She nods.]

That...makes a little more sense. [She smiles.] And I know I'm going to need help. I'm not used to being so lost.
dowhatittakes: (cute smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-05 05:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, I can answer as many as I can. Sadly you won't find too many friendly people on this station, you're more likely to be mugged and sold into slavery than have questions answered.
unyieldingly: <lj user=chiquita> (pic#5648151)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-06 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Thankfully, I'm used to people trying to gut me in side alleyways for little reason whatsoever. And I'm familiar with slavers. They don't tend to like me very much.

[She'll need to introduce Omega's brand to a fistful of lightning.]

I'm just trying to figure out how I got here. There are no...shuttles where I'm from. We don't have any of this.

['This' being...everything.]
dowhatittakes: (crossed arms)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
That I don't know, it seems that how you got here might be even more of a mystery than how I did.

I guess you'll just need to try to survive here until something answers itself or makes it able for you to return home.
unyieldingly: <lj user=corelite> (pic#5648126)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-07 06:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Try to survive. Well, she's done that before. She can do it again. It's just a matter of adjusting.]

And what will you do? You're more familiar with this place. Where would you start?
dowhatittakes: (have a seat)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
I'd find some place to stay, get some work and try to get some information and a way out of here. First will be seeing what Aria has to say about all of this, then it will be accommodations.
unyieldingly: <lj user=corelite> (pic#5648127)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-07 06:02 am (UTC)(link)
And Aria isn't going to be very easy to negotiate with, I take it?
dowhatittakes: (hand to neck)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 06:04 am (UTC)(link)
She doesn't listen to anyone not of significance or within her own interests. Knowing her she'll just want all of you out of sight and not underfoot while she's repairing.
unyieldingly: <lj user=unyieldingly> (pic#5649003)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-07 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
I think I can accommodate her in that regard. I don't really have any intention of sticking out. [Despite what her history may say, ahem.] I just want to be certain that I won't wake up one morning being thrown out on my face in the streets. Or undergoing any impromptu trips like this one, for that matter.

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
Then what's probably for the best is to follow anything Aria says if you don't want to stick out. Omega isn't known for being friendly or for allowing things to slide.
unyieldingly: <lj user=corelite> (pic#5648214)

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-07 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Ah, a caveat. Hawke will have to pretend a little bit more to give a damn about what Aria has to say.]

I'll give it my best, I assure you.
dowhatittakes: (knowing smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-08 01:14 am (UTC)(link)
I'm glad to hear it, you seem like a nice person so I'd hate to hear about anything unfortunate happening to you.
unyieldingly: <lj user=corelite> (seems that I've been held)

DW what the heck did you just do /)_(\ I am so sorry about that, I have no idea what happened

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-08 03:09 am (UTC)(link)
Same to you. But I think you're going to have a bit of an easier time than I will.
dowhatittakes: (What did I just step in?)

No worries, DW does some weird stuff sometimes.

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-08 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Perhaps, but I've made more than my fair share of enemies here during my last visit. I'll likely have to be fairly cautious.

[personal profile] unyieldingly 2013-02-10 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Anyone who can get by in this place with no enemies is probably on the wrong side of what's right.
dowhatittakes: (smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-10 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Or too powerful for many to even bother thinking about being an enemy. But I'm sure you'll find your way around before too long.
