You’re not sure how it happened.

A minute ago, you had somewhere to go, someplace to be. Maybe something important to do, or maybe you were just going out to buy groceries. Whatever it was, it doesn’t matter anymore.

You’re in some kind of transport -- a shuttle, given the turbulence and the sounds outside. You’re surrounded by strangers, some of whom might not even be the same species you are. There’s no point in asking. They don’t know how they got here either. The cockpit’s blocked off, like someone forgot to put in a door, and not even a glance at your omni-tool -- a holographic interface accessible by merely tapping the sensor on your left arm -- is any help.

You’ve only got a minute or so before the shuttle starts descending. There aren’t any windows -- this doesn’t look like a shuttle meant for long trips. When it finally touches down, the doors open automatically.

Before you are landing pads, abandoned equipment scattered about. There are other shuttles landing, and whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to get off before yours dumps you out the door. Turn around, and you’re met with a hazy skyline, only half the buildings seem to be coming from above.

That's true, we'd all be terribly old and disgruntled. No one wants that.

Hey, never asked what you were a doctor in. Only doctors I knew were the ones in CADMUS for health or science.

Well I'm not a medical doctor, I have a doctorate in ancient cultures and archaeology. You can get a doctorate in just about anything now, but medical school is a little different.

Oh wow, that sounds really cool! History isn't my thing but it must be cool to know a lot of stuff like that. So you look at what's left of a culture and can tell a lot about them based on what they left behind?

You can get a lot back on Earth, but...Well, I guess if we had a lot of connections in the galaxy then we'd have a lot more.

For the most part I can learn a great many things about a culture by looking at things they left. Of course, I've been studying a race called the Protheans and it's only recently that I've had to change much of what I originally wrote and thought about their culture.

Why was that? Something new come up?

You could say that, I met a Prothean and everything I had thought was true was changed really quickly. It's a long story really, but a bunch of things happened so now I deal mostly in information brokering.

You met one? Huh, that must have a pretty cool experience to actually meet one.

So you're the go to person for a lot of things then?

It wasn't as interesting as I thought it would be. We don't get along, whatsoever.

I guess you could say that, I'm fairly knowledgeable in a lot of things but I wouldn't say I know everything about Omega or anything like that. This station is huge after all.

Ah. That...yeah.

What's there to do in the place that's not...awful or something.

We just fight really, our differences in personality and head space are too great.

Well there are a number of night clubs and bars, restaurants, cafes, shops, I'm sure there are a few other attractions that you can look up in your omni-tool. This station is the same as any major city, just with a reputation for people getting mugged any time of day.

That kinda sucks. That you don't really get on.

[He listens and tries to imagine it like the way Metropolis is with it's streets and shops and everything else. It's difficult though and he frowns a little.]

Can't wait to check it out. What's the view on attacking from self-defense? I mean if someone tries to mug me, there gonna wish they didn't even try. Not that I'm actively gonna try or anything.

Generally if people are stupid enough to attack someone that has greater strength than them then it's their own fault. The moral codes of this station are...lax. People go missing or are murdered everyday here, it's not uncommon, usually people just tend to stay in their gang run districts for safety.

Oh, right. I guess that makes sense.

I guess there's no kind of policing system then if those things happen a lot.

Police on Omega is a bit of a laughable idea. It's lawless, that's it's entire point of being on this side of the galaxy and as much as it can come in handy it's not the easiest place to live.
