Marco had seen a few messages floating around on the extranet about rampaging monster things, but the more practical effect as far as he was concerned was that moving around in the world suddenly got a lot more complicated. For the past few days, he'd been trying to lie low as much as possible, switching from empty apartment to empty apartment, casually walking between store, trying not to pass the same place too many times. Pretty much all of his teenage loitering skills put to use at once, except the consequences of being picked up as an idle hoodlum here seemed far worse than having his Sega taken away for a month.

Now that the streets were getting increasingly deserted other than people crazy enough to run around hunting down the adjutants, one stupid little teenager trying to go for a stroll with his hands in his pockets and taking in the scenery seemed much, much less likely. In fact, being outside at all seemed like a terrible idea, but Marco didn't have a known hole-up location for himself yet.

He could hear the sound of gunshots and some pretty disturbing yelling fast approaching, but couldn't pinpoint exactly where it was coming from. Nor did he really want to wait around to find out. He picked a direction that seemed likely to take him away at a right angle to the potential trajectory of the incoming fight, and moved that way at an easy trot.

Gotta save some energy in case he had to sprint for his life, you know.

This was definitely not her fault.

Nope.

Zoe is entirely willing to blame it all on the adjutants. She'd swear by it, even. Course, Benji would see through it, cause Benji always sees through her fibs, but Benji's not here, and that's the whole problem right there. They'd gotten separated a while back -- okay, maybe Zoe had gone running off after an adjutant, but at least she'd gotten it!

Somehow her excuses seem much less viable when there's no one around to listen to them.

(Okay, there're the adjutants, but they haven't been listening to her.)

Zoe lets loose another blast of electrical energy from her sword, downing the last of this group of adjutants, and decloaks as she comes around the corner. There aren't any down this street, so far, but with the rate things are going she doubts it'll last.

There is a kid, though, and Zoe heads right for him, sheathing her sword on her back and catching up to him in a handful of long strides. She'd come out here in the first place to protect people, and she's not about to leave him all by his lonesome out here.

"Hey! Are you lost too?"

Zoe gives him a skeptical look through her helmet, but it doesn't exactly translate. "You look lost," she says, and runs a few paces ahead of him, to the end of the street. She looks down every street to make sure it's clear before turning back to him and reaching for her gun.

"But don't worry, okay? I'm gonna get you outta here in one piece. Promise."

"Hey, hey, we'll be fine!" Zoe raises a hand, trying to calm him down. To be fair, rescue isn't something she's all that experienced in -- sure, she'll help her allies on the battlefield, but those are soldiers, not civilians and definitely not kids.

"Trust me, okay? We'll get past 'em and I'll find you someplace safe." She tries to keep her voice reassuring. "I think this street's safe right now. Just stick close, okay?"
