Since arriving, things hadn't been going too badly for Kengo. Or at least they were going as well as they could, considering what had happened just before he'd been ripped from his home and shoved one hundred and seventy-five years in the future and five thousand light years from home. That was a minor detail. So was the fact that there were plenty of other races who seemed hostile, but no one had attacked him yet. Above anything else, he'd become his worst enemy. There was his anger at Sakuta, the despair of losing Kisaragi, and the crippling, painful fear in his chest that he was truly alone. It brought back memories of the time when he had been trapped on the Rabbit Hatch moon base without a way home, convinced he would die alone in the same place and manner as his father. His father, who had only dreamed of a world such as this. The man had spent a large part of his life researching the possibility of life on other planets. And here it was.

There was no moon here. No Earth. No stars that he could see. More than that, it felt as though part of himself had been forcibly ripped from him. It was different from the loss of his best friend. This felt as though his senses had been dulled. The silence was quieter and even the loudest areas of Omega felt as though they were missing something. He couldn't quite place it.

Even this early on in his stay, Kengo was determined to distract himself from the mess of emotions. If he didn't keep his mind on other things, he was convinced he would go crazy or accomplish nothing. This was better than the alternatives. For now, Kengo had resigned himself to making rounds through the residential district after his job was over for the day, mapping out specifics of the area in his head. The tendencies of a tactician didn't leave him, even when he no longer had a Rider to support. With the heated discussions going on between various groups, Kengo knew he couldn't be too careful.

A large, pale blue glow further down the hallway caused Kengo to abruptly stop, staring at it intently. This was the first part of his usual route and that light hadn't been there the night before. As he kept his gaze focused on it, he noticed that it was swaying slightly. It wasn't a flashlight or anything of that sort and it didn't seem to be someone wielding it. The lights in the hallway were almost too dim to make out exactly what it was, but Kengo felt instinct twist his stomach. Something about this definitely wasn't right. While he didn't want to approach it, he also didn't want to turn and walk away without knowing what it was.

Kengo stepped to the side of the hallway, taking cover behind a short wall as he pressed his back against it. Already, he had moved his case onto his lap, balancing it on his leg on the off chance that whoever or whatever it was would jump out and force him to retreat. With this situation, it was better to be safe than sorry. Kengo couldn't afford unnecessary confrontations.

Shifting his position slightly, Kengo started the scan of the hallway and whatever was contained in it, thinking to himself how much easier it would be to send one of his droids ahead of him -- if only one had come with him.
