who. washington and carolina [cr aus]
what. wash asks for some advice.
where.varren central carolina and north's place
when. forward-dated to next wednesday, 4/25
warnings. mention of injuries.
[ He still isn't sure what made him call in the first place, but Carolina hadn't asked too many questions. She'd known about what happened to York already. Part of him thinks he should just stay with her, make sure she's all right, but she's not cooped up in the clinic anymore, and York's always been a lousy invalid, no matter the universe or sex. The more space she got, the better.
But Wash can't deal with space right now. Not after this, not after the last few weeks. He still hasn't been able to talk to York about what had happened a few weeks back with the mercs. Not sure if he even can.
But maybe Carolina can. He knows this isn't the one from his universe, or at least not the same one he knows back home. Not the one from Sacrosanct either. But like York had reminded him, she's still Carolina. And even here, that has to count for something.
So Wash pulls himself together and knocks. ]

carolina had to wonder at this point if the universe had it out for york's eyeball.
that wash had called needing to come talk to her about something had been surprising, however. she was open to whatever he needed to talk about, really, and it'd be nice to do something relatively normal given everything that had been going on around here.
well, ok, everything going on back home, too.
once she heard the knock, she looked up from where she'd been on the couch and set down here datapad. freya, it seemed, was yet to be interested in strangers and promptly moved to hide behind the couch, only peeking around the corner as carolina went to let wash in.] Wash. Come in. Watch out for Freya she's... skittish.

[ Wash looks around, but he doesn't see anything -- or anyone -- other than Carolina. She's not really the type he'd expect to get a pet -- but then, he doesn't really know this Carolina, does he?
Wash takes a step in and lets out a breath, trying to let his guard down a little. No luck just yet. He's been so fucking tense for the past week that it's a wonder he's managing to be calm at all. ]
--Thanks. For having me, I mean.

[she isn't, really, but she's getting used to the idea. freya has been a welcome distraction so far, at least.
it's odd to see him still, to have him look older than the man she's used to. but his mannerisms are still the same, even if he's tenser than she can ever recall seeing him]
No problem. Can I get you anything?
[because being a polite hostess is definitely her strong suit. right.]

Weird having her offer anything, too. It hasn't been that long since she'd been ordering him around, nothing but cold rage left in her tone. It wasn't this Carolina, and he knows that, after all the different ones he's known, but it's not something he can just get past right away. ]
Sure. Beer, if you've got it. [ He snorts. Shakes his head, more to himself than to her. Might not be the best idea to drink, but if there's anyone he can trust here, it's her. ] Think I need it, after this week.

she shakes her head at that, lets out a soft snort.] No beer. Gin, though, and whiskey if you'd like them. [not her choice, either, but it hadn't been her credits going into it. she pulls out the whiskey, regardless of his answer, and sets to getting some glasses for them. sets them up for whatever it is wash needs to talk to her about.] It's been a hell of a week. How's York holding up?

[ Wash finds himself a seat and more or less sinks into it, grateful to let something else carry his weight. It's been a long week. Hell, long doesn't even begin to cover it. ]
She's-- well, she's York. Acts like she's fine. You know how it is.
no subject
either way, she pours him a glass, and one for herself, raising an eyebrow at his comment.]
York will be York. He wasn't any different the last time. [she pauses] Or I assume she wasn't, either.

[ Wash takes the glass with a murmur of thanks and takes a quick sip. The taste isn't quite what he's used to, but the alcohol is enough to suit his needs. He leaves it on the table and leans back into his seat with a sigh, gaze drifting off to the side. ]
I just... I don't know. Just because she's acting like it doesn't mean she is. And I don't know what to do.
