To be honest, he realized mankind's achievements and he was proud of them (partially because of what his father had accomplished), but he also recognized that humans had been far behind the other races. Talking to his salarian boss and digging around with what information he could gather had told him that much.

"I'm still primarily familiar with my own era's tech, but I've only ever had passing familiarity with medical work." Really, that part was only because of how constantly sick he was.
