intro log

who. everyone!
what. entering omega.
where. landing pads
when. today
warnings. none for now

You’re not sure how it happened.

A minute ago, you had somewhere to go, someplace to be. Maybe something important to do, or maybe you were just going out to buy groceries. Whatever it was, it doesn’t matter anymore.

You’re in some kind of transport -- a shuttle, given the turbulence and the sounds outside. You’re surrounded by strangers, some of whom might not even be the same species you are. There’s no point in asking. They don’t know how they got here either. The cockpit’s blocked off, like someone forgot to put in a door, and not even a glance at your omni-tool -- a holographic interface accessible by merely tapping the sensor on your left arm -- is any help.

You’ve only got a minute or so before the shuttle starts descending. There aren’t any windows -- this doesn’t look like a shuttle meant for long trips. When it finally touches down, the doors open automatically.

Before you are landing pads, abandoned equipment scattered about. There are other shuttles landing, and whether you like it or not, you’re going to have to get off before yours dumps you out the door. Turn around, and you’re met with a hazy skyline, only half the buildings seem to be coming from above.

Welcome to Omega.

ooc notes
You’re free to expand past the landing area, but please start all threads here. Please remember that your character will not have housing until Aria makes a post granting it; it’ll be on [community profile] outsiders and linked here when it goes up.

[He's coughing as he's helped back up again, but he's not upset - hell, it's probably how Happy felt after being decked by Nat's legs of steel.]

I - ... yeah. Yeah I did. Jesus. [He rubs at his cheek and winces.] So I'm not dreaming. And I'm on a space station halfway across the galaxy. No biggie, right?
dowhatittakes: (crossed arms)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Liara will just drop her arms back by her sides once he's on his feet and think a moment. A small part of her is satisfied that her punch hurt but she won't admit that.]

You are, there are ways to get back to Earth but I'm not sure that they'll work. The Relay system seems to be malfunctioning, I know that's how I ended up here and I was on the other side of the galaxy from Omega.
tasteslikecoconut: (Consulting hours are not now)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 12:50 am (UTC)(link)
[He worries at his cheek for a few more seconds before dropping his hands back to his sides as well. That's going to be a healthy bruise in a few hours. It's happened more often than you'd think when it came to his old lifestyle. There was a reason he retreated to his workshop in the mornings.]

Wait, hold the phone. Relays? You mean what, high speed transportation systems? Because that seems like the only reliable means of getting back to Earth anywhere close to my lifetime. And you were just on one?
dowhatittakes: (I can't believe this-hand)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, high speed transportation systems, but they're malfunctioning. If they were working I wouldn't be here nor having this discussion. I can't seem to get a hold of any of my contacts off of this station, effectively we're stranded for the time being.

[That fact horribly depresses Liara, she has things to do and a galaxy to save with Shepard.]
tasteslikecoconut: (You can't afford me babe)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 01:04 am (UTC)(link)
Do you have any specs handy for those? Like are those just available to the public, because that's - wow.

[Now his mind's going on hyperdrive. He really wishes JARVIS was here. Like, really badly.] How did we not know about you guys? Or this place? You seem to know of Earth and there are, you know, people. Like that chick over there, she looks like she's lived here for years, but she's human. What's up with that?
dowhatittakes: (shadowbroker screens)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
You might be able to find some in the public archives if you want information on the Mass Relays. [After everything today Tony's questions don't surprise her and she'll try to answer them as best as possible.]

Humanity has really only been on the galactic scene for about 30 years, that was after your race developed faster-than-light travel and found the Mass Relay in your system put near Pluto. The asari have been monitoring humanity for a while on and off, we just weren't sure when the best time to approach was. Of course you took care of that and managed to irritate the turians by trying to activate your dormant relay.
tasteslikecoconut: (Who the fuck wants to die alone)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
[Just get him talking about tech and he'll forget all about your perfectly shaped breasts, Liara. Tech beats out chicks. Always and forever. Sorry.]

I'll take what I can get, I want to know everything.

[He's making all sorts of puzzled faces as she explains all this, and it takes all of Tony's considerable willpower to not just interrupt her midway through her first sentence, because she's getting facts wrong left and right.]

Uh, thirty years? [Arc Reactor tech was only just arriving on the scene around then, there was no talk of faster-than-light travel, or 'Mass Relays' on the other side of Pluto. Then it hits him. There is a dire question he needs to ask that happens in all of those movies where someone winds up in a place that's completely different than what they know.]

....What year is it.
dowhatittakes: (inquiring)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
By the Alliance's calendar it's...2185 CE. [Now she's curious as to why he's so worked up about this. Of course Liara never been one to dive into pop culture and watching too many movies but she'll just wait for his reaction.]
tasteslikecoconut: (Hurrhurr)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a sharp inhale of breath and his eyes go wide. That's... that's... Well. No wonder JARVIS isn't working here. No wonder there are aliens and space aviation and high speed interstellar travel. This is awesome. And terrifying. All at the same time.]

...I just did the Time Warp. [Breathe in, breathe out. He looks off over her shoulder somewhere, eyes a little blank.] I'm in the future.
dowhatittakes: (thinking-look down)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
That...shouldn't be possible. Mass Relays don't do time jumps of great significance. [So now there are humans from the past and different universes, today just keeps getting better. Idly she wonders if she'll go crazy from all of this, perhaps it's genetic.]

What year is it where you're from then?
tasteslikecoconut: (I want you to be a part of it)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 03:49 am (UTC)(link)
That's what I said. You know, in my head.

[A lot of this shouldn't be possible, but now you have to give him a little credit here. If he'd known you guys were real more than an hour ago he would have had slightly more tact in his greeting. And maybe he wouldn't have been socked in the face. Again, deserved.]

Two thousand twelve, back home. We haven't even got a real good fix on space flight. I was working on it. Am. Was. Whatever.
dowhatittakes: (amused smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
That's quite a bit back, even before I was born. Although, I'm not a terribly old asari. [But she'll notice the glowing ring in his chest again and decide that's a good thing to bring up since they were on the topic of technology and space travel.]

So, if you were working on space flight, can I ask why the centre of your chest is glowing like an eezo core?
tasteslikecoconut: (Now learn from your mother)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 06:24 am (UTC)(link)
[Tony does some quick math in his head and yep, that's a new one for him. He'd ask about it but you just pointed out his greatest weakness. At least you didn't try and punch it. Yet. Please don't.]

Eezo?

[Oh man, new elements? NEW ELEMENTS.]
dowhatittakes: (omnitool search)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 06:28 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, element zero. I guess if you're from that far back you wouldn't know about it. It's virtually what the entire galaxy runs on now.

[Tony, hold onto your reactor, it's time for SCIENCE!]

That looks very similar to a small one, although, perhaps not, the colour isn't quite the right shade of blue.
tasteslikecoconut: (Holy in my heart)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-04 06:39 am (UTC)(link)
...Is it now. And more info on that is also in this orange hologram communicator, huh.

[Give him science, Liara. ALL THE SCIENCE.]

Trust me, it's not. [Back to things not related to his arc reactor. He's already tapping on the omni-tool on his arm to try and look up just what element zero is.] So you use this stuff for space travel. High-speed galactic travel. [Hmm hmm hm. He's going to be holed up somewhere reading All The Things.]
dowhatittakes: (shadowbroker screens)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-04 06:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's called an omni-tool, so you know. There is a great amount of information, mostly you'll find general information but getting anything about it's purposes in the military or private interest groups would be more difficult.

[Not like she knows from experience, not at all.]

It's used in drive cores to assist in FTL travel, depending on the type of electrical current that's run through it the element will increase or decrease the weight of an object around it. Unfortunately the cores can build up static and often has to be discharged when it comes to ships.

It's not an easy element to just stumble across either, which is why humans didn't discover it until you started searching Mars.
tasteslikecoconut: (What are you talking about)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-07 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
Difficult's not an issue.

[She's already losing him into the depths of the omni-tool, and he's waving half-heartedly in her direction that's meant to be dismissive. Not rude, but it probably is anyway. Whoops.]

Okay - you'll have to give me like, a day to read up on this stuff, then I could talk with you for hours, and we should. Do that. Because this stuff? I want to know everything.
dowhatittakes: (crossed arms)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 05:45 am (UTC)(link)
You'll probably want to know then that asari have naturally occurring nodes that allow us to use it's abilities freely.

[Just so you know Tony, she's scarier than you think. But she'll just huff and allow you to keep waving your hand. Stupid space monkey.]

I'm sure once you exhaust the extranet I'll see you once again.
tasteslikecoconut: (What are we waiting for)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-07 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, of cou- wait, what?

[Stupid space monkey raises his head and leers with one eye half closed.]

What did you just say?
dowhatittakes: (devious smile)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 05:50 am (UTC)(link)
About what? The extranet?

[She'll play dumb if you're going to brush her off broski.]
tasteslikecoconut: (This one is not for the folks at home)

[personal profile] tasteslikecoconut 2013-02-07 05:52 am (UTC)(link)
[R u d e.]

No - no no, the other stuff. The eezo. And you doing something about using it freely on your body - through your body.
dowhatittakes: (Biotic pose)

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-02-07 05:56 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, yes, asari have a natural ability to use it. Of course some are better at it than others, but we're all born with the ability to manipulate it within our bodies.

[You started it.]
