Wash snorts. "Not like I could have blamed you if you did." Hell, he's still surprised she'd stuck with him all this time. They hadn't made very good housemates, much less friends, when all they'd seen in each other were the ghosts of people they weren't, but... they'd figured it out, eventually. And they'd come out the stronger for it.

And now here he is about to put all that in jeopardy. He's still got time to back out. Hell, maybe he should back out. But all he has to do is look up at that smile, and he knows he can't do that.
