This is the start of something bigger.

who. Everyone on Omega.

what. The station finds out about the state of Thessia - in that it is now being taken over by the Reapers.

where. Various places all over the station.

when. Immediately. Right now.

warnings. None as of yet, other than general panic and chaos.

It begins like any other day on the station. The sun isn't shining, the grass isn't green - there are vorcha sleeping in back alleys and krogans still drunk on ryncol trying to start fights with anyone passing by, but that's just another day in the life of a patron of Omega.

Except today, there is something different. It's not in the air, at least not yet.

During Cerberus' occupation of the station, handy little devices known as quantum entanglement communicators were installed to allow communication with The Illusive Man, and though Cerberus is no longer on Omega, their devices remain. It was likely that this was the only way Aria could maintain contact during her exile, and thus the only reason they remain now that she's back - but that's neither here nor there.

Today, there's something different coming through. Not the usual galactic noise, the static that bleeds into everything else where the station is concerned. Today, it's something completely different.

The Reapers have invaded Thessia. Asari commandos have held them off for as long as they possibly can, but there is only so much they can do with limited resources. And as the news makes its way around the station, everyone seems to react differently, but the song remains the same: ultimately, chaos will ensue. It's only a matter of time.

Why all the worry? The asari are the most advanced race in the galaxy. If they don't have the means to hold the Reapers off, no one does. It's hopeless.

We encourage you, as players, to plot and thread as you see fit - how your characters will react to the news, how they will be affected, etc. There will be some starter threads below, but you are more than welcome to start your own.

[Looking over from the odd squishy purple fruit she had been inspecting, it wasn't Kirrahe that she had expected to be standing there.]

Captain Kirrahe, nice to see you.

[She's probably the most calm asari you're going to see on the station for a while.]

Not much, news travels fast but with the relay destroyed it would take a very long time to get to Thessia to help. The best we can do for now is prepare for the worst to happen here.

What we need to do is fix the relay, but so far no one knows what is wrong with it.

[Liara will give her a patient smile, she knows how frustrating this is. She's barely holding together as it is. Things are going to get a lot worse before they get better.]
motivationalspeaker: (let me tell you why that's wrong)

Likewise.

[Upon his arrival, Liara had been the one that had told Kirrahe about Thessia's fate, and here it was happening all over again. It made sense that she would be prepared for it, but he was sure that it didn't make matters any easier for her. Words of encouragement always worked for his own soldiers, but he wasn't sure how to approach this situation. She knew what was going to happen far better than he did.]

You'll have to forgive me for stating the obvious, but this isn't the safest time for a shopping trip. [Not that he really had room to talk, but hey.] Are you all right, doctor?

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
I'm...I don't know. [It was the truth, she knew what was going to happen, but it only distressed her more that this time she was trapped on the other side of the galaxy from Thessia and had no way to help anyone on her homeworld.]

Perhaps for the sake of sanity a shopping trip was what I needed.

[Weird purple space-fruit included.]

Perhaps. I've found small distractions to be a good way to put one's thoughts in order from time to time. Are you opposed to company?

[As much as he'd rather be out there somewhere fighting the good fight, his options were also limited for the time being. At least he could offer his support to someone.]

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 05:48 am (UTC)(link)
No, not at all. Garrus enjoys reminding me that I need to attempt to be more social.

[And since Kirrahe is being so kind, she'll spend some time with him. She had a feeling that Kirrahe wanted to be out there and doing something about this as much as she did, but both of them had their hands tied in this.]

[personal profile] motivationalspeaker 2013-05-12 05:58 am (UTC)(link)
Are you the type that prefers work over social interactions? Seems to be a trend among scientists.

[he pauses briefly.]

I think I just compared you to Mordin. I believe I owe you an apology for that.

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 06:10 am (UTC)(link)
[That will get her to smile at least. He isn't wrong that she enjoys books to people.]

It's alright, you are correct in following that line of thought. Work is easier than being social, I find I'm not very interesting when talking with others, or I somehow make it sound like I want to use them for a lab experiment.

[Embarrassing times with Shepard, those were good times.]

[hey, a smile is always a good sign.]

At least you don't actually want to.

[he's still convinced that mordin wanted to pull some weirdass experiments. Y'know, that whole mad scientist thing.]

You're a Prothean expert, isn't that right?
dowhatittakes: (thinking)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 06:49 am (UTC)(link)
No, I have no interest in experiments that involve people. My work was all theoretical based on archaeology.

[Mordin probably does, because he's crazy, awesome, but crazy.]

I suppose I am, it's been a while since I've been actively researching as in depth about the Protheans as I should. Actually meeting one changed many of my hypotheses about their culture and political structures.

[Kirrahe would argue the awesome part but hey he's a bit of a cloaca.]

Wait, you met a Prothean? How is that possible, they've been extinct for 50,000 years.

Re: Market District

[personal profile] squanderlust 2013-05-12 02:49 pm (UTC)(link)
So it's like a siege. [suddenly she seems to understand, but her expression doesn't change much.] Well, how hard could it be to rally everyone to prepare? Including the mercenaries. They're just mercenaries, give them enough money and they'll do anything. Gods, it's not like they're kingdoms at war or anything.

[she knows that she's probably annoying the hell out of this poor woman, but this is important! this is whether or not she gets to live long enough to get out of here! ...and probably about saving the lives of everyone on the asteroid, too.]
dowhatittakes: (over the shoulder)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
In part, yes. We can still get out but it would take much longer to travel the galaxy without the relay.

[But her question will make Liara pause and think for a moment. Rally the mercenaries and the rest of the local populace. It was a long shot but if Aria managed to do it against Cerberus then it might be possible to rally others together.]

No, it's not like kingdoms at war, it's closer to fighting against bands of deities. I'm not sure how you'd go about getting mercenaries to fight reapers, no one has that much money, even if some of the gangs may be running scared because of the news about Thessia.
dowhatittakes: (over the shoulder)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[He can be, don't let scientists argue or it'll just turn ugly.]

Cerberus stumbled upon one in a stasis pod on Eden Prime, Shepard unlocked it and he decided that fighting the Reapers with Shepard was a better choice than going on his own. I was fortunate enough to talk with him, even though he is...not what I expected.

[now she looks self-satisfied as all hell, because she thinks she's landed on something. she crosses her arms over her chest and raises an eyebrow cockily.]

Well, wouldn't a Reaper invasion break the first rule of this place? I don't know Aria that well, but I really don't think she'll let them get very far without some huge resistance.
dowhatittakes: (omnitool search)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-12 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)
It would break the first rule of Omega, although one thing to remember is that we are on a station, all of our food must be brought here from outside sources. Even if there was a resistance organizing the supplies would be a challenge, especially if many of the worlds that we receive supplies from have been overtaken by Reapers.

Aria likely has some scheme, she's not about to go down without a battle.
squanderlust: (this world is perilous for us)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] squanderlust 2013-05-12 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, great, so there's going to be mass chaos for two reasons.

[and her cockiness disappears as quickly as it showed up. instead, now, she looks determined.]

We're repair workers. The relay needs to be repaired. So we'll figure it out. Great! I think I know what we have to do to fix everything. [has she even been listening?] Thanks for this talk.

To be perfectly honest, I don't know what I would expect from a Prothean. What was he like?
cosmosic: DON'T STEAL (calm→ ready set staring contest)

[personal profile] cosmosic 2013-05-13 11:03 am (UTC)(link)
[they're kind useless yeaaaaa...

She doesn't know much about Aria so this is news to her! So the next comment she's curious and sarcastic about at once.]

Why someone want to control this dump is what I want to know.

[A pause while her thoughts get away from her a bit. What was so great about this place that would make anyone want to come back, either. There were just problems left and right and she didn't even DEAL with them, did she?]

She lost it?
motivationalspeaker: (I'm not brooding dipass)

[personal profile] motivationalspeaker 2013-05-13 07:03 pm (UTC)(link)
If you control Omega, you control everything on Omega. There are four known mercenary groups, countless weapons, illegal trading which likely brings in huge quantities of money. Given the location and the over all nature of this place, it's unlikely that any military would try to move in to clean the place out. Assuming she can unite the mercenaries under her command when necessary, She would have a formidable, ruthless army.

Apparently that was recently the case. A group known as Cerberus recently occupied the station. Aria took it back. I don't know specific details about the situation yet, but I've been looking in to it.

[Okay that was a bit long winded. That's what you get when you talk to a salarian.]
dowhatittakes: (I can't believe this-hand)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-14 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
You..do? [Did she actually listen to a thing that came out of Liara's mouth? She's not sure she did.] You're welcome but I don't think you honestly understand the full scope of the issue we're dealing with here. We're talking trillions of lives and technology that is exceedingly advanced and old.
dowhatittakes: (crossed arms)

Re: Market District

[personal profile] dowhatittakes 2013-05-14 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
He's...angry. [That's being polite about it.] He's a soldier and refuses to let anything get in his way of stopping the reapers, unless it's reminding you that you're a primitive species in his opinion.
cosmosic: (serious→ intense thinking)

[personal profile] cosmosic 2013-05-14 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
[She knew Omega was bad, but how bad was still unknown.

Her brow furrows. Bodies, weapons, and money. He's right. With the right resources (which Aria clearly had) she was formidable. And what she knows of Aria, utterly ruthless.]

If Cerberus occupied the station, they're probably pretty formidable themselves. [And now the Reapers took Thessia.

This...world, or whatever it is. Whatever these places are she's randomly turned up on, are never good. Omega, especially.]

Could her army take on the Reapers?

Well, he certainly sounds charming. I can't say I could blame someone in his situation for being angry, though.
motivationalspeaker: (we'll just drop a nuke on them)

[personal profile] motivationalspeaker 2013-05-14 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Alone? Absolutely not.

[Encouraging, right? All things considered, Kirrahe doesn't look too beat up over it.] This war is bigger than any one species, any single planet. Any space station full of mercenaries. If we're going to have a chance against the Reapers, the entire galaxy needs to stand united.
